Depression is real. It’s ugly and no one ever wants to talk about it. This blog post is going to be different from my usual reviews or spotlights.
I’ve suffered from depression for years. Neither my family or I recognized the symptoms at first. When I was in high school, I was able to see someone. Her name was Teri and she made me feel at ease. I could talk to her about things and I felt safe in that space.
Fast forward to today. I’ve dealt with a lot in my life. Most recently, the loss of my father. There’s also past trauma I’m working through that includes abuse, anxiety, and depression. I don’t talk about it. I usually keep to myself. I’ve been condition good think no one cares.
You may have noticed that I haven’t had much content lately. To be honest, the past three to two weeks, I was in a huge depression state. It hit me hard. I tried to function but I really couldn’t.
I am fortunate to have a small circle of support.
A few ways to help a friend who is suffering from depression is, let them know you’re there. Send memes. Maybe order them dinner.
Some things NOT to do. Tell them to quit being sad or say there are others worse off.
It took a lot for me to share this. I hope this helps anyone who is going through depression. You’re not alone. You matter.
If you’re waiting on a review or response, please know that it’s coming. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
I want to give you all an update. I know I haven’t been around much. I am still actively working and reviewing. I hit a reading slump. A lot of it had to do with grieving and what’s been going on in my life. Books are my happy place and I couldn’t even bring myself to read.
I am much better! I’ve been reading and will be scheduling more reviews for you to check out. Thank you to those who reached out and the author friends who didn’t give up on me. It means more than you know!
Lots of cool things are happening. I was on a podcast! Yep, lil ol’ me! It will be up this week for anyone that wants to check it out. The host is amazing!
I am also on TikTok! Still trying to figure it out and so far it’s pretty fun! Follow me @theliteraryvixen
Hello everyone. I wanted to hop on and give you an update.
If you’ve noticed there hasn’t been many posts. I lost my father recently and very unexpectedly and it has turned my whole world upside down. The past two weeks have been a struggle to focus on anything but my grief. I couldn’t even escape into a book and that’s always been my safety.
Interview with an Author will be back next week. I put it on hold for two weeks but I have some more amazing authors coming your way.
Book Buddies is still happening. We finished two books out of four. Stay tuned for those updates. We think you’ll enjoy our thoughts.
Reviews will be coming. I received some really awesome book mail. I am actively sharing them on my Instagram and now on TikTok. I am still trying to figure out that new platform. Maybe I should start sharing them here too……
Guest blogging may be happening as well.
That is all the updates I have for now. Thank you for taking time to read this or any of my posts. I appreciate you.
Happy New Year!!
What a year 2020 was! With that dumpster fire behind us, I am hoping this will be a better year for all of us.
Hey book dragons! Did you set a reading goal on Goodreads yet?
I did. I upped mine to 200….should be easy right?
Last year, one of my besties and I started buddy reading. At first it started off with one book and then it grew to 3 or 4 books a month.
I’ve decided to post our reading shenanigans here for you all to enjoy. Stay tuned!
I will still have author spotlights every Sunday. I am working on a couple of different things as well.
I wish you all a better, positive and hopeful 2021!

I love fall and I love Halloween! I love watching scary movies and eating way too much candy. The Halloween movies are my fave to watch. I have some awesome things planned for this month! I will be featuring horror authors on Interview with an Author. I will also have a giveaway or two.
I cannot wait for the cooler weather! It hasn’t cooled down yet. Arizona takes awhile to get to those cooler temps.
Stay tuned everyone!!
Hello everyone! I wanted to introduce myself again. My name is Laura and I own The Literary Vixen blog. I’m a Native American blogger from Arizona. I love books, coffee, makeup, cats, and music. My love of reading started at an early age. Books were an escape and an adventure. I remember one time in elementary school, I read all the books the librarian had on a chart. I was so proud to see all those shiny stars next to my name. Earning all that free pizza from the BOOK IT! program didn’t hurt either.
I started this blog back in 2014 because I wanted a place to share my reviews and book news. I came into the reading/indie community back in 2013. There were so many other book lovers AND they loved talking books! The best part was getting to know and interact with authors! I’ve met some amazing people and have made some long lasting friendships through this connection. It also opened up a new passion for me and that was becoming a personal assistant to indie authors.
I did take a break somewhere along the way. Between life, health, and working, it took its toll on me and I had become burnt out. A break was needed and so I took one. It was longer than expected. I slowly started to come back. Started reviewing again and kickstarted my blog. I missed it! I made changes and had a new logo made. There have been so many awesome new books I’ve read lately and connecting with some amazing new authors has been wonderful.
The place I am most active on is Instagram. The link is on the right sidebar if you want to follow or check it out.
To my followers, THANK YOU for visiting my site and taking time to read my reviews. My reviews are from the heart and my honest opinion.
I haven’t been posting as many reviews lately. I took some time to read some books I checked out from the library and have been doing a lot of self care. The self care is a continuous thing but I will be back with some new reviews some time this week.
I hope you all are enjoying the author interviews on Sunday! These authors are really amazing and I appreciate the time they’ve taken to stop by. March and April are booked! Stay tuned for more!
I hope you all are well and doing your best to take care of yourself and loved ones. During these uncertain times, choose to be kind.
As a reader, you always hope every book you read will be an awesome one. Sometimes that just isn’t the case. I had my first DNF of the year. DNF=Did Not Finish. I thought I’d be more upset about it but I made peace with it a long time ago. Life is too short to read bad books!! On to the next! While I don’t have a review for you today, I will tomorrow and hopefully more.
Thanks for stopping by! Happy Reading ❤ ~Laura
