The Romeo Catchers (The Casquette Girls Book 2) by Alys Arden – My Review

Release Date: May 23rd 2017

Genre: Young Adult Fantasy

~Synopsis~

Tormented by the fate she condemned her mother to, and by the lies she’s forced to tell to cover it up, Adele scours Storm-ravaged New Orleans for the truth about her family’s magical past. But every turn leads her back to the one person she’s determined to forget: the vampire Niccolò Medici. Not even the bewitched locks trapping him can break their connection.

Sensing Niccolò calling to Adele, Isaac tries relentlessly to keep her from exploring paths that would endanger them all. But a new threat is rising in New Orleans…an older enemy that will bring Isaac’s haunted past to life, test the witches’ friendships, and jeopardize Adele and Isaac’s blossoming relationship.

In this spellbinding continuation of The Casquette Girls saga, Adele delves into seventeenth-century Florence—a time bubbling with alchemy and fraternal betrayal. As she uncovers long-buried secrets, sorting history from fantasy will be her only hope of saving her mother, her coven, and her magic.

~My Review~

The city is still in upheaval. Adele and her friends are still researching their ancestors’ history. Adele struggles with her magic and life. Something is stirring and trouble may be heading straight for them.

What a read! While reading, I can help but feel like I’m instantly transported to New Orleans. I love the author’s style of writing. Again, I love her attention to detail and descriptions in regards to both magic and paranormal. However, I struggled with my feelings about Adele in this book. Some of her choices did not make sense. I felt she was being selfish a lot of the time. It wasn’t enough to spoil the book for me. I just noticed a difference with that particular character. The beginning of the book is slow going but once you’re past it,  it picks up and then you’re in for that ride. That ending though….I need book three NOW! I give this 5 stars.
