Interview with an Author featuring J.J. Marshall

The Literary Vixen presents…

Joining us today is J.J. Marshall! Her latest release, Dark Tide: A Wicked Fairytale released on May 1st 2020.

What inspired you to start writing?

Back when I was 16 I kept having this feeling that I should write a book and once I started, I fell in love with writing and creating worlds and stories for others to enjoy.

What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?

Not sure if this is a quirk, but I love kidnapping my characters. It probably sounds messed up but it’s fun.

How do you deal with emotional impact of a book (on yourself) as you are writing the story?

Um, I usually cry a lot. Especially if it’s a sad scene. Then I take a minute to process the scene and the decision that I’ve chosen to go with and talk it over with my husband until I’m numb to it.

How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

I’ve written several but have only published 2 [soon to be 3]. Out of the published works, Dark Tides is probably my favorite.

From my unpublished, it’s a toss up between Rose Bound and this one I wrote when I was 16 about aliens.

What books or authors have most influenced your own writing?

Sarah J. Maas. I look up to her so much as a writer. I also love P.J. Shepherd and Scarlett/Katze Snow.

Do you hear from your readers much? What do they say?

I do! Most of them contact me either through facebook or instagram and tell me how much they love the books, what they’re reading or about the scene that destroyed them. [P.S. sorry but not sorry for those scenes!]

What book is currently on your bedside table?

Blood Promise by Richelle Mead.

Do you have any new series planned?

I do! The next series is going to take place in the Rose Bound universe but cross genres. It’s called the Lucas Greer Chronicles.

If your book was to be made into a movie, who are the celebrities that would star in it?

Oh gosh! Um, I never really think of my books like that. But, if Dark Tides was made into a movie I’d probably want Dylan O’Brien as Aaron, Selina Gomez as Serena, KJ Apa as Petar and Kat Graham as Mystic.

What advice would you give to other authors?

Don’t give up. Even if it seems like nothing is going your way, keep going. Success doesn’t happen overnight.

What is the one thing you want people to know about you and your books?

My books:There will almost always be lgbtq characters. I believe love is love and should be accepted.

I have several friends and family members in the community and support them wholeheartedly.

And about me: I won’t let the world and negativity tear me down. Always push. Never give up.

Thank you J.J. Marshall for chatting with me! I will include her information down below. Check out her newest release, Dark Tides today!

~Synopsis~

With the unexpected death of the siren King, Princess Serena finds herself next in line for the Adrellan crystal throne. But with a new ruler, comes a new agenda.
Betrothal to the Land King’s son was not what Serena had envisioned for herself and now she must find a way to live without her vicious instincts.
Serena faces love and death.
Heartache and ruin.
And when a scorned Marquess finds out that Serena had been betrothed to the prince, she stops at nothing to bring down the siren, even if it means taking her voice.

When J.J. isn’t slumming with outcasted princes, hunting down sea witches, avenging an alpha’s death or saving mankind from a zombie invasion, you can usually find her nose deep into a book or on adventures with her husband, friends, and furbabies.
