Interview with an Author featuring Victoria Danes

The Literary Vixen presents…

Joining us today is Victoria Danes, author of The Jade Sinclair series!

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

It was after reading a book by Kathleen Woodiwiss. I remember loving it so much and telling my brother that I wish I could write. “So…write.” He told me. But if I’m being honest, I wanted to be a writer my whole life. I used to tell myself stories on long car rides when I was kid and used to write short stories about animals.

What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?

Hectic. I juggle a lot throughout the week and usually carve out time in the morning while everyone is still sleeping for writing and editing.

How many books have you written? Which is your fave?

I have written a total of 3. One historical romance and two urban fantasy. I am working on book 3 in the Jade series right now. As far as my favorite goes, that’s hard to decide. There are elements to all of them that I absolutely love and scenes that were so much fun to write.

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

The moon. I know how that sounds but I could stare up at the moon for hours and think of plots and dialogue between characters. That’s how I initially came up with the idea for the first Jade book. A very cold winter night staring up at the full moon from my balcony.

Describe yourself in three words.

Spunky. Honest. Kind.

What was your hardest scene to write?

Oh boy…I don’t know how to answer this without giving too much away but I will say that it was the accident scene and second interaction between Adrian and Jade.

Do you hear from your readers? Have you experienced a weird fan girl moment?

I do hear from my readers. They will reach out on social media or email me and I love to hear from them and interact with them. I actually did experience a weird fan girl moment…When I was working at another salon as a hairstylist one of the girls I work with came up to me and said “Hey, someone on the phone wants to schedule an appointment with you but they asked for you by your author name.” That was a little weird. They never showed for the appointment, so I didn’t know who it was.

What are you currently reading?

I am currently reading Crimson Death by Laurel K. Hamilton.

What advice would you give to other authors?

Just keep writing. Write because you love it and because it gives you joy. Write what you want not what you think will sell because readers are super intuitive. If you’re not passionate about what you’re writing, they will pick up on that in the work.

What is the one thing you want people to know about you and your books?

I am an empath and deal with anxiety a lot sometimes it’s my own sometimes it’s something I am picking up on from someone else. Writing is my way to cope with that and transfer that energy into something else. I also have a ton of fun writing!

Victoria Danes was born in Transylvania, but grew up in the United States. She currently resides in Pennsylvania with her husband and three children. Books have been her passion ever since she was a little girl. She loves everything from mysteries and thrillers, but holds a special place in her heart for historical romance. She prefers reading and writing to watching television “because our imagination can be much more entertaining.”
