Interview with an Author featuring D.C. Gambel

The Literary Vixen presents…

Joining us today is D.C. Gambel! She also has a story in the Once Upon Another World: A Twisted Fairy Tale Box Set that is set to release on October 6th 2020.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing for just under 6 years. Wow that seems long when I think about it.

Describe a typical writing day.

I’m a mom, so first thing is getting the kids situated. I either wait until nap time, or when they’re occupied, to sit down and get some writing done. Some times I even have to do it on my phone because if my youngest sees my laptop she wants to play.

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

Everywhere. TV, other books, listening to people talk. I got the idea for the Horsemen Chronicles from reading an alien book. Makes no sense but something in it triggered the idea and I was compelled to write. Took two weeks to finish that first draft.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

One? No. One in each series? Oh yeah. My most recent story, Huntress in the Thorn Court which can be found in the Once Upon Another World boxset, my favorite character has be the sex on stick alpha werewolf, Gideon. He’s absolutely delicious. He’s my favorite because he gave me a chance to write a different type of character and I love how he came out.

When you’re writing an emotionally draining (or sexy, or sad, etc) scene, how do you get in the mood?

The sexy scenes come very easily to me. A lot of the times I have to take a step back and take a cold shower so I can write with my head instead of other parts. The others are harder, but nothing a tearjerking movie can’t fix.

If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

Determined, compassionate, and self-reliant.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I like to add new characters and create new problems to overcome while still sticking to the original premise. There is always a big issue that will spread throughout the entire series, but it’s not always the center of attention. Sometimes it takes the backseat to a new conflict.

Are you working on anything at the present you would like to share with me?

Oh yes. I’ve recently started a new pen name Isabella Knightly and am currently working on my debut novel The Rise of the Cursed Mage. It’s a dark fantasy. I’m enjoying the change from my regular writing style.

On my D.C. Gambel pen, I’ve two upcoming releases both from the series The World of the Hunter Order, which is my Beauty and the Beast retelling. It takes what you love about the story and morphs it into something adult friendly.

What is advice would you give to other authors?

Your cover is to entice readers. Make sure it fits your genre.

What is the one thing you want people to know about you and your books?

I write sexy stories, but it isn’t all about sex. My characters are strong women, that may be shy at first, but come into their own to kick some ass.
