The Literary Vixen presents…
Joining us today is Lindsey Powell, author of The Perfect Series!
How long have you been writing?
I started writing after reading Fifty Shades of Grey. The series inspired me to create my own hot book boyfriends.
Describe a typical writing day.
I usually have to fit in writing around my day job and my family, but if I had the whole day to myself then it would start with a cup of coffee and a quick re-read of the last chapter I wrote. From there I would get totally lost in my manuscript by putting on a playlist and letting the words flow, as well as making several more cups of coffee.
Where do you get your inspiration for your books?
I don’t really have a specific thing that inspires my books. I can be anywhere and an idea will come to me, and from that idea I build on it, sometimes slowly, sometimes quickly. It all depends on my mood and how busy I am.
Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.
Jake Waters. He will always be special because he was the first book boyfriend I ever wrote. He’s got it all. Looks, charm, kindness, loyalty… he ticks all of the boxes.
I went through so many emotions whilst writing The Perfect Series, and I am so proud that I put it out there for others to (hopefully) enjoy.
How do you deal with emotional impact of a book (on yourself) as you are writing the story?
I currently have one book series that I have had to put to one side because of the emotion in there. It’s one that deals with such a sensitive topic that I have to be in the right frame of mind to continue with it.
The last series I released really took a toll on my emotions. The Part of Me series made me dig deep to make sure that I had the story absolutely right for the characters. Once I finished writing that series I gave myself a break from writing to recharge my mind.
Are you on social media and can your readers interact with you?
I am on social media. You can find me on Instagram, Twitter, Book bub, Goodreads and Facebook where I have an author page and an author group called Lindsey’s Literary Lovelies.
When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?
I try to keep the characters different from my previous ones as they all have their own stories to tell. I also have a couple of fabulous beta readers that give me their opinion on whether things need changing up.
Are you working on anything at the present you would like to share with me?
I am working on something a little different. It’s still romance, but it’s dark romance.
I’m really enjoying how different it is to write something that is darker but that still incorporates the suspense element that I love so much.
I am nearly finished with it, so I am hoping to make an announcement soon.
What is advice would you give to other authors?
Believe in yourself.
If you have a story inside of you, get it down on paper, work on it, embrace it.
And don’t let anyone make you think that you can’t.
What is the one thing you want people to know about you and your books?
Just one thing? LOL.
If I had to choose just one then it would be that, I love to write those HEA’s, but in doing so I like to write about real life struggles and scenarios. My books may not be everyone’s cup of tea because of some of the subject matter, and readers may not agree with the characters choices, but their choices reflect real life struggles.
An example of this is Callie from my book Take Me. Some readers didn’t like her choices. Some actually messaged me to say that they were angry with her, but Callie’s choices are ones where the fairy tale doesn’t come easily, and it takes some deep soul searching to finally let go of the things that hold her back.
I just want to say a massive thank you to The Literary Vixen for interviewing me. I love how supportive this lady is, and I am so glad that I connected with her. You are fabulous! Much love.
Thank you for chatting with me! I will include her information down below. Get started on her series today!
