The Literary Vixen presents…
Joining us today is Lisa Carlisle! She’s a USA Today Bestselling author of paranormal romance and suspense.
What inspired you to start writing?
In sixth grade, my teacher gave us a creative writing assignment one weekend. I got so into it and wrote a story about solving a mystery. It was such a highlight in my shy, nerdy, self-conscious world. I looked forward to more prompts, excited about spending my weekends letting my imagination go wild by writing.
What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?
When I’m actively writing a book, I can rarely take a shower and not rush out to run to a pad of paper. I get so caught up with the characters that I can’t remember if I’ve washed my hair. Over the next few days, I’ll find notes around the house with random words like “jellyfish” or “demon.” My family must think I’m nuts.
How do you deal with the emotional impact of a book (on yourself) as you are writing the story.
I go for walks often and listen to podcasts to get out of my head.
How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
Over thirty, maybe closer to forty.
I’m greatly enjoying writing the Salem Supernaturals series as the characters feel super real to me. But I probably think that with whatever book I’m writing at the time.
How much ‘world building’ takes place before you start writing?
I try to fill out some basics on characters and settings but much of that comes as I write.
Which of your books were the most enjoyable to write?
I’m going to say the Salem Supernaturals again because I just finished writing a fun scene in an upcoming book in the series. I love the characters. They’re misfits in their newfound family and often give each other crap because they’re so close.
What book is currently on your bedside table?
We could be here a while. I have stacks of books on tables around the house. And two Kindles.
Do you have any new series planned?
Yes! I’m finishing up another book in the Salem Supernaturals series now. And then I’m going back to a project I started in 2019. It’s a darker paranormal romance trilogy that ties into the Underground Encounters series. It will be fun to go from a lighter series back to one that’s dark and steamy.
What advice would you give to other authors?
Your first draft can be messy. Mine are downright hideous with loads of question marks and comments to myself. That’s what I tackle during revisions.
What is the one thing you want people to know about you and your books?
I like nothing more than to give people a few minutes to escape reality for a little while.
Thank you Lisa Carlisle for chatting with me! I will include her information down below. Check out her newest series, Salem Supernaturals today!
~Synopsis~
A witch without magic. A vampire without a cause.
And a mysterious death that brings them under the same roof.
When I learn I’ve inherited a house in Salem, I’m sure it’s a mistake.
Besides, I have zero desire to return to a town where I’m an outcast.
The surprises continue when I meet my tenants, including a broody vampire and a foodie wolf shifter.
But I’m only staying around long enough to sell my long lost aunt’s house.
Even when they convince me to go to a Halloween ball.
Even when I agree to pretend to be the vampire’s girlfriend.
Even when I discover his softer and oh-so-sexier side.
Because a witch without magic in Salem makes as much sense as a pig with wings. And I’ve never seen one fly.
