Interview with an Author Featuring R.A. Boyd

The Literary Vixen presents…

Joining us today is R.A. Boyd! Her newest release, The Shifter’s Choice released on February 25th.

Tell me a bit about yourself

Hello! I’m R.A. Boyd and I write paranormal romance. I’m a full-time writer, and my writing buddy is our Husky, Nyla. I know way too much about Doctor Who and Harry Potter to be a forty-year old woman, but it works. If you like shifters, fallen angels, sex demons, and sexy men who lurv their women, check me out.

Congrats on your newest release! Tell me a bit about this series?

Thanks! My new book is The Shifter’s Choice, and it’s book eight in the Ghost Shifter series. The series is about fallen angel/shifters who are looking for their mates to regain the ability to shift into saber-tooth cats. Book 8 focuses on Andi and Cole who have disliked each other since book 1. This should be fun…

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

I watch tv shows that focus on banned books of the Bible or mythical creatures. That’s always a cool place to find some inspiration. Making up my own backstories about these people/creatures gives me tons of room to come up with my own rules.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

When I sit down to write at night, I always have a cup of coffee and two cookies. As I sit and review the last few pages of what I’ve written, I sip my dark coffee and eat tasty cookies. Super, duper exciting.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

That I could actually go a really long time with no sleep. Just kidding. The most surprising thing is how attached I am to these characters. I see them in my head and can hear them. It’s like watching a movie play out in my head when I write. They are all a part of me, and sharing them with people is thrilling and scary.

Do you hear from your readers?

I do! Mostly on Facebook. I almost cried the first few times (every single time) I received messages from readers who told me how much they love my characters. One woman told me she wanted to be like Audra. It sounds crazy, but it makes me feel as if they can see the movies of my characters that I’m watching in my head. Yep. Sounds crazy.

What do you think makes a good story?

Anything. Telling a good story is up to the writer. I’ve read stories about wars and epic battles, and I’ve read stories about people enjoying the quiet as they sit and let their imaginations take over. I’ve enjoyed them all. Delivery is the key.

What is one of your guilty pleasures?

Sleep. Seriously. I don’t sleep like I should. My life consists of a series of naps. And homemade cookies. I have one of the best recipes. Ever.

What are you currently working on?

I’m working on book nine, and the final book of the New Rose Ghost shifters. It’s sad, but we’ll see these characters again.

What is advice would you give to other authors?

It sounds cliché, but I would advise them to keep writing. How will you finish if you don’t start? If you don’t continue? Even if you have to carve out 5-10 minutes of writing each day, just make sure you do it every single day. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s not worth it. It really, truly, honestly is.

What is the one thing you want people to know about you and your books?

That’s a hard one. There are a few, but the one that speaks the loudest right now is this: I want people to connect with my books and characters just like I do. I write these books from my heart, from the part of me that is indeed genuinely a part of me. I want my readers to disappear into my books with me.

Thank you R.A. Boyd for chatting with me! I will include her information down below. Check out her newest release, The Shifter’s Choice today!

A fallen angel’s inner beast falls for a woman who has the power to give them life or drive them to a century-long sleep.

BBW Paranormal Shapeshifter/Fallen Angel Romance

Andi Wolford knows that she has a tendency to attack first and ask questions later. The last twenty years have been rough, and she just wishes everyone would stop asking her why she looks so troubled. You’d be troubled too if you thought you were going to die an early death.

Cole Dodson was ready to be put down for the next century and sleep off the unbearable boredom driving him mad. He’d lived too long, seen too much. And now, he is tired. Until he runs into his Alpha’s sister, Andi: the feisty human who has his sleeping saber-tooth urging Cole to hold on just a little longer.

Cole and Andi run hot to cold, sweet to sour, fuming ire to pillow-soft cuddles. Neither one of them knows what to expect, but it sure is fun to watch. The chemistry between them is explosive but is it worth the danger Andi would be inviting into her life if she stays within the Ghost shifter community.

A friendly-foe threatens to destroy the Ghost shifters from the inside. Cole and Andi must decide whether their budding relationship is worth the trouble, or if Andi should move on with her life.

Content warning: This book is for grown-ups. They do grown-up stuff. Explicit love scenes, cursing, and violence. Oh, and sexy shifter fun. If this isn’t your thing, please skip this book. But if you love sexy shifter men who lurv their women, then hop on in!

R.A. Boyd is a writer, and reader, of paranormal romance, horror and urban fantasy. She lives in Maryland with her husband, daughter and her massive collection of books. Seriously. Her books have their own room.

She loves all things paranormal but dabbles in romantic comedies and hockey fights. When she’s not writing at three in the morning she’s binge-watching Netflix or plotting random scenes from her novels in the voice of her characters. It makes her daughter giggle but worries her husband.
