Heart of Shadows (Alice Worth Book 5) by Lisa Edmonds – My Review

Title: Heart of Shadows (Alice Worth Book 5)

Author: Lisa Edmonds

Release Date: March 17th 2020

Genre: Urban Fantasy

Trust Alice. Private Investigator of the Supernatural.

Mage private investigator Alice Worth must solve the most difficult case of her career—her own.

A magic-induced bloodbath during a Vampire Court gala leaves Alice and her boyfriend, alpha werewolf Sean Maclin, wounded. Alice and her ghost sidekick Malcolm reluctantly agree to investigate the deadly supernatural attack.

When they vanish without a trace, Sean, his pack, and the Court form an uneasy alliance to locate them. Days later, Sean finds Alice on the side of the road far from home, with no memory and no magic—and no sign of Malcolm.

For Sean, Alice’s condition means starting over with the woman he loves. For Alice, it’s a chance to escape painful memories of her violent past, but she knows she needs her power back before her enemies learn she’s vulnerable.

To find Malcolm and her stolen magic, she and Sean team up with his pack, a white witch, the Court, and a pair of dangerous black witches.

Their investigation unearths an ancient vendetta and a shadowy enemy so powerful and ruthless, no one involved—most of all Alice—will ever be the same.

Wow. Just wow. It has taken me some time to write this review. It’s no secret that this is one of my favorite series and that Alice is my girl. The author shook me with this book. From the story to the action to the characters, it left me with a huge book hangover. Danger is never far from Alice and this time it really grabbed her and didn’t let go. The story had me at the edge of my seat. SO much had happened and a lot more was coming! There were some twists I didn’t see coming and some scenes that had me shouting out loud “Whyyyy!” This book invokes all kinds of emotions, the kind I expect when reading a Lisa Edmonds book. I. Loved. Every. Minute. Of. It.

This was a fantastic and entertaining read! Well written and wonderful storytelling! Now I wait not so patiently for the next. I give this 5 stars.

The Ash Moon (The Ariane Trilogy Book 1)

By Michelle Dare

A kept secret. A life altered. A new journey.

Ariane lived her life one book at a time. She would never have guessed those books were about to change everything.

They led her to Orion.

Tall, dark, with eyes only for her. The rest of the world ceased to exist when Orion was around. But during a fateful ash moon, he shifted into a wolf. Ari thought she was dreaming, but she’d recognize those eyes anywhere.

Fiction became reality. Fantasy was actually history. And soon, Ari would learn her role in it.

A pack war was on the horizon, and she was the only one who could stop it.

Nothing would ever be as it once was, because Ariane was now part of the Avynwood Pack.

Heart of Stone (Alice Worth Book 4) by Lisa Edmonds – My Review

Title: Heart of Stone (Alice Worth Book 4)

Author: Lisa Edmonds

Release Date: June 18th 2019

Genre: Urban Fantasy

Hire Alice. Private Investigator of the Supernatural.

Alice Isn’t Running Anymore.

Five years ago, mage private investigator Alice Worth escaped her grandfather Moses Murphy’s organized crime syndicate. Now, her grandfather’s war with local boss Darius Bell has drawn her out of hiding and put her in the crosshairs of two merciless crime lords. Her decision to intervene in their war has endangered everyone Alice cares about and threatens to destroy the life she’s built for herself, including her relationship with alpha werewolf Sean Maclin.

Meanwhile, Alice’s new case is the most dangerous of her career. Hired to find a missing child with a rare magical ability, she and her ghost sidekick Malcolm quickly become targets for the boy’s ruthless kidnappers. To stay alive and free from both Bell and Moses, she must rely not only on her growing powers but also her alliances with Sean’s pack and the Vampire Court.

When Alice’s conflicts with pack members turn violent and the Court betrays her, the truth becomes clear: freeing the kidnapped boy and finding her place in the pack will cost Alice her secrets, her safety, and—if she isn’t careful—her life.

I don’t even know where to begin. This book left me with a book hangover. SO much happens! My girl Alice is faced with some more touch choices. She’s a fierce protector and while she’s not perfect, she tries to do the right thing any time she can. Even at the cost of her life. We learn more about her past and see some more growth from her. Love the action! I love a good fight with magic and Miss Edmonds delivers each time. We all know how danger tends to follow Alice and she’s always up for the challenge. This book was also an emotional rollercoaster! It had me deep in my feelings and had me tearing up more than once. This was an action and fast paced read with some emotional scenes that will tug at your heart strings. I can’t wait to dive into the next. I need to know what’s next! I give this 5 stars.

Interview with an Author featuring Victoria Danes

The Literary Vixen presents…

Joining us today is Victoria Danes, author of The Jade Sinclair series!

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

It was after reading a book  by Kathleen Woodiwiss. I remember loving it so much and telling my brother that I wish I could write. “So…write.” He told me. But if I’m being honest, I wanted to be a writer my whole life. I used to tell myself stories on long car rides when I was kid and used to write short stories about animals.

What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?

Hectic. I juggle a lot throughout the week and usually carve out time in the morning while everyone is still sleeping for writing and editing.

How many books have you written? Which is your fave?

I have written a total of 3. One historical romance and two urban fantasy. I am working on book 3 in the Jade series right now. As far as my favorite goes, that’s hard to decide. There are elements to all of them that I absolutely love and scenes that were so much fun to write.

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

The moon. I know how that sounds but I could stare up at the moon for hours and think of plots and dialogue between characters. That’s how I initially came up with the idea for the first Jade book. A very cold winter night staring up at the full moon from my balcony.

Describe yourself in three words.

Spunky. Honest. Kind.

What was your hardest scene to write?

Oh boy…I don’t know how to answer this without giving too much away but I will say that it was the accident scene and second interaction between Adrian and Jade.

Do you hear from your readers? Have you experienced a weird fan girl moment?

I do hear from my readers. They will reach out on social media or email me and I love to hear from them and interact with them. I actually did experience a weird fan girl moment…When I was working at another salon as a hairstylist one of the girls I work with came up to me and said “Hey, someone on the phone wants to schedule an appointment with you but they asked for you by your author name.” That was a little weird. They never showed for the appointment, so I didn’t know who it was.

What are you currently reading?

I am currently reading Crimson Death by Laurel K. Hamilton.

What advice would you give to other authors?

Just keep writing. Write because you love it and because it gives you joy. Write what you want not what you think will sell because readers are super intuitive. If you’re not passionate about what you’re writing, they will pick up on that in the work.

What is the one thing you want people to know about you and your books?

I am an empath and deal with anxiety a lot sometimes it’s my own sometimes it’s something I am picking up on from someone else. Writing is my way to cope with that and transfer that energy into something else. I also have a ton of fun writing!

Thank you Victoria Danes for chatting with me! I will include her information down below. Check out I Am Jade and get started on the series today!

Misery loves company…and monsters.

Secrets have always been a touch away for clairvoyant Jade Sinclair. On a good day, she can read into people’s souls and uncover buried truths long forgotten. To help find three missing teens, Jade uses her gift to assist the local PD in locating them, but soon realizes this is one case she should have turned down because in Misery, Pennsylvania the monsters that used to lurk in the shadows have now come out to play.

For police officer and werewolf, Adrian Kincaid, life has become a tedious routine. But when he’s called to the scene of an accident, he finds himself consumed with the urge to save the unknown female victim. Jade. With seconds ticking by and her life slipping, he does the one thing he’d sworn to never do, bite her, awakening something dark and hungry inside her that could threaten not only the investigation, but everything Jade thought she new about herself.

Can she silence the cravings inside her and bring the teens home before it’s too late? Or will she become the kind of monster she’s searching for?

Victoria Danes was born in Transylvania, but grew up in the United States. She currently resides in Pennsylvania with her husband and three children. Books have been her passion ever since she was a little girl. She loves everything from mysteries and thrillers, but holds a special place in her heart for historical romance. She prefers reading and writing to watching television “because our imagination can be much more entertaining.”

Banding together with Bevier, an imprisoned psychic, Meg, an eccentric seamstress, and Daniel, a handsome magician, Caitlyn falls into the Psychic Realm to thwart the Ringmaster and stop the show before they succumb to his control and are trapped forever in his spectacle of souls.

Intriguing! Fantastic! A Spectacle of Souls is that magical read that feels worlds apart. I have to say that I haven’t read anything like this and that made my black heart happy. After a couple of chapters, I was fully invested and had to keep reading till the very end. NO BREAKS! I liked that there was more to some of the characters than at first glance. Those same characters surprised me by their actions and I really liked that! The magic aspect was good and I liked the author’s take on it. It’s those little touches that can take a story from good to fantastic. This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I enjoyed her writing and storytelling style. I look forward to reading more by her. I give this 5 stars.

From the Ashes (Alice Worth Series) by Lisa Edmonds – My Review

Title: From The Ashes (Alice Worth Series)

Author: Lisa Edmonds

Genre: Urban Fantasy

You’re probably wondering how I ended up in jail with no magic. Believe it or not, it started in a used bookstore called McCann’s, just after lunch…

Meet Alice Worth. Mage private investigator, smart-ass, whisky connoisseur. As a PI who follows her own code, Alice has done plenty of things that might have landed her in jail, but she never expected to end up handcuffed to a table in an interrogation room on her day off. The situation goes from merely inconvenient to deadly serious when she discovers nothing about the crime she’s accused of is what it seems.

From The Ashes is a quick short read that features my girl Alice! She suddenly finds herself in a situation that she can’t easily get out of….or can she? I thought this little side story gave us a little more insight into Alice and her past. It makes me wonder if I’ll get another visit from a certain character in one of the other books…. I give this 4 stars.

Blood Money: Alice Worth Novella by Lisa Edmonds – My Review

Title: Blood Money: Alice Worth Novella

Author: Lisa Edmonds

Release Date: February 13th 2018

Genre: Urban Fantasy, Paranormal

Charles Vaughan has always had great taste in women, and the Vampire Court’s newest investigator, Alice Worth, looks very tasty indeed.

Find out how Charles first met Alice in this thrilling prequel to Heart of Malice!

After an epidemic of attacks by newly risen vampires terrorizes the city, authorities pressure Charles Vaughan and the Vampire Court to determine who is responsible. Complicating matters, a local businessman hires infamous bounty hunter Jack Justice to find and execute the rogues after his sister is attacked. Justice and his entourage turn the city and the investigation into a three-ring circus of media attention, vamp-hunter groupies, and self-appointed “deputy” vamp hunters.

When mage symbology is found on a captured rogue vamp, Charles enlists the help of veteran mage private investigator Mark Dunlap to figure out what involvement mages have in the attacks. Dunlap brings in his newly hired MPI-in-training Alice Worth to help unravel the mystery.

In two hundred years, Charles has never met anyone quite like Alice. Minutes after meeting him for the first time, she threatens to burn down Vampire Court headquarters. By the end of the night, Charles is sure of two things: Alice is not who or what she seems, and someday she will be his…if she doesn’t get herself killed first.

Loved loved loved getting an inside look into Charles Vaughan!! He piqued my interest from book one and he did not disappoint. There’s more to this sexy powerful vampire. This story was a wild ride from beginning to end. Danger, rogue vamps, and even more danger? YES PLEASE!! Did I also mention some kick butt magic? It was also awesome to see Alice from a different point of view. The story was fantastic! Well written and kept me on my toes. There are some twists and some definite surprises….yeah. I can’t wait to read more!! This is fast becoming one of my favorite series! I give this 5 stars.

Dream Wanderer (The Dreamer Series Book 1)

By K.M. Sparks & Michelle Areaux

Dream Wanderer isn’t the type of thing that you would include on your list of high school superlatives. But, with this ‘gift’ of magic I was born with, there really isn’t anything else to describe me.

Other than freak.

And, I was handling my label and gift just fine until Cameron walked into my life. With one look, a spark was ignited and we became twin flames. More than friends, Cameron didn’t label me as the weird girl with dark circles under her eyes. Instead, he saw something in me others and even myself didn’t–hope.

But, all that changed the day Hailey Scott disappeared. With the high school cheerleader missing, all eyes turn to me as their lead suspect. Knowing I don’t sleep and don’t have friends, I become the target of the investigation.

Everyone knows not to trust me– but somehow I earn Cameron’s trust and that of my aunt. As I uncover a web of lies, revealing an enemy in a friend, the truth of my identity is threatened.
