The Literary Vixen presents…
Joining us today is Tasha Lewis! Her newest release, Deserted (An Enemies to Lovers ) released on October 30th 2020.
Have you always wanted to be a writer?
Yes. I was 12 when I fell in love with the feeling books brought on. So, I started writing my own, about four high school friends. My friend started doing it with me, but writing her own. And I read her story, and threw mine away. I told myself that I’ll never be good enough.
However, a story has been running through my head since. I might not have pended anything until about 5 years ago, but the burning desire and thread of what if, never stopped.
What time of the day do you usually write?
It depends. I work full time and have two doggo’s so, I fit in time when I can. Sometimes it’s early mornings, if I can talk myself into getting up early. Other times it’s late at night. And others, just weekends. With 2020 being what it’s been, it’s just been a when I can. But with Nanowrimo this month (where writers strive to write a book in a month), I’m trying to be better about having planned time and sticking to it.
How much ‘world building’ takes place before you start writing?
Ooh! I’m a thinker, so loads. I think out the town, the map, the placement of everything that is needed. Then I add in little things into my head as time goes on. I try to leave my world open enough to fit in what the characters spring on me! And usually it works. But I’m a thinker first, and then I’ll sit and write.
Which of your books were the most enjoyable to write?
All… I mean, each has it’s own joy tied to it. My most recent novel, Deserted, was fun write out the first draft, I had NO plot planned. And that’s not like me, I plan everything! But with this one I just lept and trusted that Easton would show me his world. And boy did he! It was all from a male’s perspective too, which was fun!
Who is the author you most admire in your genre?
I admire so many. Currently, it’s Jennifer Probst. I’m currently reading her news novel, Write True, and it’s exactly what I need right now. It’s like she wrote this book for me as a big sister and is trying to give me all the guidance and wisdom that she can.
As for other authors, Katrina Marie, she’s my author bestie for sure. She can craft stories that just bring you in and treat you as if you are apart of the circle. She writes amazing friendship connection. Another is Mel Walker, he’s a male romance writer, and I for sure think people need to know about him. You can’t tell his a male author! He’s words aren’t overly objectified, he brings you into the world, makes you feel allll the emotions, and then sends you on your way. I could keep going on and on. I think that’s one of my favorite thing about being an author, talking about other’s books! Dee Lagasse, Kelsie Rae, Ashely Erin, Hollis Wynn, Andi Jaxon, Staci Hart, Kandi Stiner, Rachel Van Dyken, Jessica Marin, Kira Berger. Like for real, I love books!
Do you hear from your readers much? What do they say?
I have a reader group, Tasha’ Kissable Krew, on FB, and we talk all the time. I LOVE knowing about their life and what’s happening. The new babies, the fun trips (until 2020), how they are finding ways to deal with life (colorstreet nails!), so much. We talk books, we sip tea, and just get real. Their support and words are what keep me going when my mind tells me to stop. I love my readers! And reading their reviews, yes, I read all of them, gives me the ability to keep doing what I love!
Favorite book when you were a kid?
The Outsiders!
If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Sweet, Caring, and Inspiring.
What advice would you give to other authors?
Write. Believe in yourself, your words, and write. Don’t worry about everything else, it will all come! Just sit and write out the story. Without a story, you won’t get far. And seeing your baby in a paperback… GAH! It’s life. Seriously. It’s amazing! Keep at it. Message me and I’ll be your cheerleader if you need!
What is the one thing you want people to know about you and your books?
That with each story, you will feel emotions. I believe all emotions are good, and must be felt in order to process and move through this thing we call life. I’m not angst, but I write emotional books! As for me, Thank You, for believing in me and picking up my book. For allowing me to transport you to a different place. Sending you a big hug from Utah!
Thank you so much Laura and Readers for allowing me to talk about my love of books for a few moments. Keep at it, 2020 is almost over, and know that I’m here if you ever want to contact me. I believe in you!
Thank you Tasha Lewis for chatting with me! I will include her information down below. Check out her newest release, Deserted today!
~Synopsis~
Shipwrecked.
Deserted on an island with no social media, no fans following me around, and no uncle breathing down my neck.
I’d call it a vacation, if I weren’t stuck with the one woman who can’t stand me. Worse, she doesn’t talk, which has me focusing more on her body and not so much on the language. Despite a promise I made once upon a time, I can’t keep my hands off her.
Every day we’re alone together, I want her more, longing to be less of the player I used to be.
…But then life intervenes, reminding me of who I’ve always been.
