With a business skidding toward bankruptcy and bone-dry bank account, Helen Schrader is willing to do the unthinkable. But what will happen when she hires a witch to cast a money spell?

When the spell sets in motion her own latent magic and her inexperience causes her to accidentally hex her celebrity crush, rocker Brian Shepherd, all that good fortune she hoped for flies out of the window.

Now, Helen and Brian struggle to break the curse and tackle their growing feelings for each other. Problem is, the harder they fall for each other, the deadlier the curse becomes.

But as a dark magic cult with an unquenchable thirst for power closes in on them, the couple will have to face more than just their inconvenient desire. With time running out and danger mounting, can they beat the hex before Brian becomes its next victim?

“Turner sets up a promising world that readers will be pleased to return to in subsequent installments. Paranormal fans should check this out.” – Publisher’s Weekly

If you like Darynda Jones, Karen Marie Moning, K. F. Breene, or Laurell K. Hamilton, you’ll love this fun and sexy paranormal romance!

Magic AND Rock n Roll? Count me in!

I love how different this story was compared to what’s out there. The story is unique but has just what your paranormal witchy heart desires. Did I mention there’s a dreamy man named Brian who’s also a rock god? Oh yeah! Swoooon! The author was after my black heart with this one. I found Helen relatable. She wasn’t perfect and made mistakes. Helen tried fixing and doing the right thing. Which we all can relate to! I admired her spirit. I really liked Helen and Brian teaming up to fight the bad guys. Their attraction was HOT! I was there for all of it!

This book has everything you could want in a story. We have magic, evil bad guys, strong female, and a book boyfriend. There’s more to add but pick up this book and see why its fantastic for yourself! Kat Turner is a new to me author and I’m excited to read other books by her! Her storytelling style is unique and engaging and her writing is delightful. I give this 5 stars.

The Literary Vixen presents…

Joining us today is Kat Turner! Her newest release, Blood Sugar (Coven Daughters Book 2) released on August 24th 2021.

Congrats on your newest release! Tell me a bit about your book?

Thank you! Blood Sugar is the second book in the Coven Daughters paranormal romance series. It follows Eve, a mortician who speaks to the dead and is being stalked by an angry spirit, and Jonnie, a vampire rock star who yearns to be human again. They’re thrown together when he seeks out her help, leading them to discover that their problems converge at a dark, horrific juncture. They battle a simmering attraction while teaming up to fight the forces of evil that bind them together.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

My process is pretty intuitive and spontaneous, though I do draw inspiration from previous books that I’ve written as well as songs and movies/television shows. I often begin with amorphous impressions and feelings about a story, then move to crystalize these initial, nascent ideas into coherent characters and plots.

Have you always wanted to be a writer?

On and off. I wrote when I was a kid, then put it down until college, when a brief foray into creative writing didn’t go anywhere. I spent a decade in academia writing articles and book chapters before fiction called me back again in 2015.

How do you deal with the emotional impact of a book (on yourself) as you are writing the story?

Great question! Writing a book is a very emotional process for me. While drafting, I tend to spend a lot of time daydreaming about the story and characters and listening to music that “fits” scenes in the book. When all goes well, these habits drive me forward and help to generate new scenes and chapters.

What books or authors have most influenced your own writing?

I’m a big fan of paranormal romance authors like Ilona Andrews, J.R. Ward, Karen Marie Moning, Laurel K. Hamilton, and Nalini Singh. I also love tight, descriptive thrillers with moments of darkly wry humor like The Wicked Sister and Bath Haus. Contemporary Romance has influenced me as well, particularly the voices of Helen Hoang, Christina Lauren, Olivia Cunning, Kristen Callihan, and Kylie Scott.

What is the best part of your day?

I love a slow day off where I can spend the morning in bed with my coffee, reading, watching videos, or catching up on marketing and social media. Bonus points if my family is still asleep.

If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

Driven, goofy, curious.

What are you reading now?

Wild Love by Lauren Accardo.

What advice would you give to other authors?

Don’t be afraid to send your work out for feedback, because this is a huge piece of how we improve our craft.

What is the one thing you want people to know about you and your books?

My stories come from my heart and I hope that you love them as much as I do!

Thank you Kat Turner for chatting with me! I will include her information down below. Check out her newest release, Blood Sugar today!

~Synopsis~

Eve Conley-Adyemi, a clairsentient mortician being stalked by an angry spirit, is no stranger to supernatural drama. But when a vampire rock star shows up on her front porch begging her to end his undead existence, she gives him a hard pass. Besides, her death magic doesn’t work that way.

Soon, the sensitive rocker named Jonnie Tollens wins Eve’s interest, and they team up to defeat her poltergeist and cure his vampirism. Their quest leads them to a supernatural expat community in Peru who might have solutions, unlocking dark, potent facets of her powers along the way.

As they fall for each other, they lose control of the exact forces they need to harness. Worse, a marathon research session uncovers terrifying facts on who is really pulling the magical strings.

Can Eve and Jonnie fix their broken lives together before a rising tide of dark magic engulfs them both?

If you like Darynda Jones, Karen Marie Moning, K. F. Breene, or Laurell K. Hamilton, you’ll love this fun and sexy paranormal romance!

When not reading or writing, Kat works for a college, teaches yoga, and lives the mom life. She jealously guards her gym time, has too many plants, and has grown rather adept at picking up objects with her toes. Kat is represented by Jana Hanson at Metamorphosis Literary Agency.
