Prophecy Girl: Camille Bishop, Book 1 (Audiobook) – My Review

Title: Prophecy Girl: Camille Bishop, Book 1 (Audiobook)

Author: Ravin Tija Maurice

Narrator: Christina Jones

Release Date: October 26th 2021

Genre: Urban Fantasy

I never thought my life could get any weirder, then Jane Lowry came into my office.

It seemed like a straightforward paternity case; something simple for my first solo assignment as a private investigator. Everyone has secrets. Jane Lowry’s would lead me down a path that would completely change my life. I knew the world was full of crazy things, but nothing would prepare me for how crazy it would get.

The Prophecy Girl series is one of my favorites! When I saw it was available on audiobook, I was excited!! I was hoping the narrator would bring Camille Bishop to life. Boy did she! The narrator did a fantastic job! The story and the characters came alive and I was easily transported into their world. I can’t wait for the next one!

Interview with an Author Featuring Ravin Tija Maurice

The Literary Vixen presents…

Joining us today is Ravin Tija Maurice! Her book, Prophecy Girl: Camille Bishop, Book 1 is now available on audiobook.

How long have you been writing?

I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t writing! But the real passion for it started in early elementary school when I realized that I could make the story and decide what happens. That appealed to me a lot.

Describe a typical writing day.

Typically I get a hot beverage, either tea or coffee, and some music together then sit down and do something to clear my thoughts. Recently I have been using a random notebook as a place to dump all the other thoughts before I start working on a project. I have to say it’s incredibly helpful

Then I sit and write, I try to pace myself but sometimes I can go for hours without stopping. And before I know it I have to stop and cool dinner.

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

From a variety of places. I watch a lot of TV and movies and get lots of inspiration from there. Same with reading and books. I also love hearing what other authors are working on, I get inspired by the passion. Lately I have been reading a lot of comics and graphic novels, I find the pacing and format very inspiring.

Do you have a favorite character that you have written? If so, who? And what makes them so special.

That’s a tough one! But I do love Olivia from my Afflicted trilogy, the vampire with no tongue. Trying to figure out how she would operate in the world was really interesting and I had lots of fun learning about her. I also liked writing Lilly Darling, a character who comes up in Believer, my second Camille Bishop novel, in part because she made me laugh out loud. That’s rare!

How do you deal with the emotional impact of a book (on yourself) as you are writing the story?

Another great question! I am dealing with this now, the project I am currently working on is more of a psychological thriller and the main character has survived A LOT. I have really had to separate myself while working on it because living in her head space is a lot to deal with emotionally.

The emotional impact is important I think because if I felt it, then hopefully the reader did too and that’s very important to me. And I have to give them space, especially when I am done writing, to mourn them in a sense. But time to make peace and move on.

What book is currently on your bedside table?

Right now I have a few. Sin Eater by Megan Campisi the graphic novel Rat Queens.

When writing a series how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I think it’s really important to try to just do a little better than you did previously, and that’s what I want to do with the series. Make sure I tell a complete story in one book but tie them together, and hopefully they just keep getting better.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Caring, loyal, trustworthy

What advice would you give to other authors?

Just keep swimming. Even when you feel like you can’t, this isn’t about anyone but you. You need to share your story with the world in the way only you can. Keep going. Everything can be fixed in edits.

What is the one thing you want people to know about you and your books?

That they come from a place of wanting to tell great stories, and wanting to make great memorable characters.

Thank you Ravin Tija Maurice for chatting with me! I will include her information down below. Check out her audiobook release, Prophecy Girl today!

Fallen (Starbound Book 1) by K.L. Bone & Greg Wilkey – My Review

Title: Fallen (Starbound Book 1) *Audiobook*

Author: K.L. Bone & Greg Wilkey

Release Date: January 29th 2021

Genre: New Adult, Fantasy

Sometimes, even stars must share their light to stop the darkness…

***

The dream was always the same. Stars falling from the sky, their dying screams echoing across a bleak canvas. Rosalind never imagined the horrors which plagued her sleepless nights were not dreams, but warnings of an uncertain future. Nor that her visions were shared by another.

Across an ocean, Zeke gazes at the sky each evening, helplessly watching as his beloved stars vanish from sight. Most believe these disappearances to be natural, but as the light of the night sky rapidly fades, Zeke knows in his heart, something far worse is at play.

When this unlikely pair meet, romance sparks under moonlit nights. Little do they know their union will awaken a long-dormant power which seeks to consume all within its grasp. Together, they must discover a way to save the stars, before only darkness remains.

Fallen is a refreshing and unique story about the mystique of the stars we see in the sky and two people’s lives destined to change forever.

I have to start with how much I love Kylie Stewart’s voice! I was ecstatic to see she was the narrator. Her voice truly makes any story come alive.

The story is very well written. Great characters who are relatable! I highly enjoyed the plot and the many mysterious things happening around and to our main characters. I went from smiling to gasping to tearing up. Good times!

I highly anticipate the next book!! Well done Miss Bone and Mister Wilkey! 5 stars!

“Fear to the fearless. Hope to the hopeless. Mercy to those who hate you. Death to those who love you. That is your destiny, Princess of Kale, Princess of Koloso, heir to both.” – Prophecy of the Kalian Twins

The struggle for the throne intensifies as twin Princesses Ameria and Mariana are forced to contend with their bitter rivalry and haunted past. In this sequel to Heir to Kale, the sisters learn that they must first expose the secrets of their past before they can begin to unveil their shadowed destiny.

Awaiting the Temple bout which will determine her fate, Princess Mariana struggles to unite a Kingdom long bereft of leadership. She must navigate a labyrinth of rival families, powerful lords, and the ever-widening rift between those who serve the Temples and those who do not. Unprepared and still grieving the loss of her mentor, Mariana must decide for herself what is right for the kingdom and who, if anyone, can be trusted.

Meanwhile, Princess Ameria is more determined than ever to discover the true identity of her father’s killer and is willing to risk everything in order to find the answers she seeks. Embarking upon a quest which takes her from gleaming Temples to darkened castles, she endeavors to learn the truth about her family, the Prophecy, and the future of the Kingdom. Eventually turning to her estranged grandfather, the powerful and dangerous Lord Riccard, Ameria uncovers a truth about her family’s past from which will threaten to challenge the very foundations of her beliefs.

However, as the sisters come closer to revealing their past and the prophecy which haunts their future, the wraiths watch from the shadows, an ever-present reminder that time is running out and that the fight for the throne looms upon the horizon.

The saga continues in Heir to Koloso! Even more twists and turns! More action. That jaw dropping revelation had my head spinning! An ending I didn’t see coming. Well done Miss Bone! A marvelous and adventurous read! The pleasant voice of Cassandra Nuss, brings the story to life. I need the next one ASAP! I have to know how it all ends. I give this 5 stars.

Title: Losing Logan *Audiobook*

Author: Sherry D. Ficklin

Genre: Paranormal, YA

Losing Logan is a wonderful read. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I truly enjoyed it. I loved the uniqueness of the story. I was pulled into the story right from the beginning. Solving a murder? Let’s do this! The narrator’s voice was perfect for the characters. She helped bring the story to life and nailed the teenagers attitudes! I loved Zoe’s snark and awkwardness. I related to that. The ending was totally unexpected and more than a couple of tears were shed.

Sons of Stars by Nia Rose – My Review

Title: Sons of Stars *Audiobook*

Author: Nia Rose

Release Date: April 24th 2020

Genre: Paranormal, Fantasy

Domenic Alderman is a normal 17 year old student who likes to occasionally lift weights. Winter vacation is over, and it’s a week until Domenic’s 18th birthday. At school, nothing special happens, just a new girl named Luna joined his class and she…glows! Quickly, Domenic’s normal world is flipped upside down as he starts to go through some very strange changes.

If being able to run faster than normal and being able to lift weights like they were nothing weren’t strange enough, accidentally turning a potential girlfriend into a sword and battling strange shadow creatures called Tamas might put a kink Domenic’s graduating plans.

Sons of Stars is a fantastic YA fantasy story! Domenic and his friends are typical high school kids. They like to hang out and have fun. When Luna joins his school, weird things start to happen. It’s a crazy ride going forward! I really like the originality of the relic and welder. There is plenty of action scenes and some scenes that will have you tearing up. Ah teenagers. The narrators voice was pleasant which made this book enjoyable to listen to. That was quite an adventure and I am hoping there’s another book coming! I give this 5 stars.

Heir to Kale: Rise of the Temple Gods, Book 1 by K.L.Bone – My Review

Title: Heir to Kale: Rise of the Temple Gods, Book 1 *Audiobook*

Author: K.L. Bone

Release Date: May 4th 2016

Genre: Epic Fantasy

Fear to the fearless. Hope to the hopeless. Mercy to those who hate you. Death to those who love you. – Prophesy of the Kalian Twins.

In the land of Kale there lies a delicate balance between the powerful temples and the rulers from an ancient, royal bloodline. The Temples are ruled through combat, determined by a series of tournaments. Of these tournament champions, 60 are chosen to become Defendants, an elite team charged with protecting the realm from all enemies. Selection to this team is considered the highest of honours and leadership of the team is decided only once every 13 years.

Princesses Mariana and Ameria, twin daughters of two such champions, are taken as children to separate, yet equally powerful Temples. Through years of rigorous training both are educated in the arts of combat, swordplay, and the ancient traditions of the Temple Gods. Both eventually obtain the rank of Kalian Champions with the expectation of one day serving upon the coveted Defendant Team.

Then, not long after their 17th birthday, the childless King declares that one of the sisters must succeed him as the future Queen. As the race for the throne begins, the sister’s long standing rivalry intensifies, leading both upon a dangerous path that threatens not only their lives, but the fate of the very kingdom.

Unbeknownst to the twins, this treacherous path to the throne is the elaborate collaboration of an ancient prophecy and two creatures charged by the Gods themselves ensure it comes to pass. As primeval powers awaken, the two sisters must struggle to learn the truth behind the prophesy and search for a way to change their inevitable fate.

Wow….this story blew me away. Fantastic world building! It’s adventurous and action packed and also heart wrenching. Several times throughout the story I was either shouting out loud or I had tears coming down my face. Ah good times. The characters are very well written. I really like Ameria! I just felt myself leaning more towards her. The puppies were a nice touch and totally unexpected! The narrator had a nice voice and I dig her wraith voice! I NEED the next one ASAP!! I am now fully hooked and invested in this series. I give it 5 stars!
